A few words about trekking
Fjallabak’s challenging treks that we mostly operate in the southern volcanic highlands can be compared, without a doubt, to the most beautiful, remote treks in the world. The most hidden part of the Öræfi desert is a collection of strange and majestic landscapes from the great volcanic rift that splits Iceland in two. Where we walk, there are few tracks – few signs, if any, of man’s existence. This is one of the few places in this world where the silence is complete. A true wilderness that will leave you spellbound with natural wonders at every turn.
“Those who wander are not necessarily lost” - JRR Tolkien
Our exclusive treks are limited to 12 participants and are exceptional in their design and quality. They are led by professional guides who have strong personalities, often unconventional. Rough, cultivated, serious, sympathetic, friendly and quietly listening, they know and love their job and the fascinating country of which they are addicted
The participants taking part in Flallabak treks can be from different nationalities, Europeans, Americans, Canadians, Australians or New Zealanders. Some time other languages than English are spoken by Europeans as Scandinavian, French, German or…Hungarian but don’t worry your Icelandic guide will be leading the trip in English.
A Fjallabak trek is a unique opportunity to meet, interact and socialize with pleasant companions and make friends around the world.
Most of our treks go throught Fjallabak Nature reserve. It is a magical land difficult to describe with words. But thanks to Airpano, as one of Odin's raven, you can fly here over this indescribable territory:
