Spring Discovery

Spring. An overflow of life invades the tundra and the meadows, which have tender green colours, whereas the tops still remain covered with snow. It is the spectacular return of the migrating birds. From America, Europe and Africa, great flights are coming towards Iceland. They all arrive, wild swans, barnacle gooses, Harlequin ducks, and phalaropes, all ready to start again with enthusiasm the repetition of life. Mating is in full swing and the birds are not afraid, almost unconscious, and don’t show yet their mistrust as they will a few weeks later when they will be breading and raising their youngsters. The ocean that breathes like a lung takes again a strong and subtle scent of freedom and vastness.

This overland discovery of Iceland is led by a specialist of its nature, its history and legends. A trip where you meet reindeers and migrating birds, hot springs and fresh fish. This is a timeless trip at the four cardinal points to the constantly renewed horizon. Through majestic landscapes, which follow one another, occupying all spaces and unravelling in a spectacular way, it is held by the single ribbon of the circular road.

Warning! If winter has disappeared giving way to the spring months, with Nature waking up end light rising rapidly towards the summer solstice, it has not necessarily said its last word. Sometimes in April, winter can suddenly come back in strength and in a very bad mood. So in April opt for a list of winter-spring intermediate clothing!

In 10 days we do the Full circle of the country on the circular road nr 1 to which is added the bypass of three peninsulas.

But it is possible to do only part of this grand tour by leaving the trip part way or by taking it on the way by an internal flight between Reykjavik and Akureyri or Egilsstaðir

  • 10 days: Full tour from Reykjavik to Reykjavik
  •   8 days: from Reykjavik to Egilsstaðir (return flight to Reykjavik)
  •   6 days: from Akureyri to Reykjavik (outbound flight to Akureyri)
  •   5 days: from Reykjavik to Akureyri (return flight to Reykjavik)
  •   4 days: from Egilsstaðir to Reykjavik (outbound flight to Egilsstaðir)

10-day Full circle

10 days from Reykjavik to Reykjavik via the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Vatnsnes Peninsula, Akureyri, Lake Mývatn, the Möðrudalur and Egilsstaðir desert then through the East Fjords and along the South Coast, Vatnajökull, Jökulsárlon Eldhraun and Vík-í-Mýrdal to Reykjavik

8-day route from Reykjavik to Egilsstadir

The first 7 days of the Full circle - Around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Vatnsnes, the Trolls Peninsula , Akureyri, Lake Mývatn, Möðrudalur plateau, ending in Egilsstaðir. Return flight to Reykjavik on the next morning 8th day

6-day route from Akureyri to Reykjavik

The last 5 days of the Full circle - Domestic flight the day before from Reykjavik to Akureyri and overnight in Akureyri. Meeting with your guide the next morning departure for six days to Lake Mývatn, the highlands of Möðrudal, Egilsstaðir, the East Fjords and the South Coast: Vatnajökull, Jökulsárlón, Eldhraun, Vík-í-Mýrdal and Reykjavik

5-day route from Reykjavik to Akureyri

The first 5 days of the Full circle - Around the Snæfellsnes peninsula, Vatnsnes, the Trolls Peninsula and ending in Akureyri. Return flight to Reykjavik on the next morning 5th day

4-day route from Egilsstaðir to Reykjavik

The last 3 days of the Full circle - Domestic flight the day before from Reykjavik to Egilsstadir. Accommodation in a Egilsstadir hotel. Pickup by your guide next morning and departure on road four 3 days to the East Fjords and the South Coast: Vatnajökull, Jökulsárlón, Eldhraun, Vík-í-Mýrdal and Reykjavik
